Thursday 26th September, the first day of the gala, was the special day when NELPG took over the NYMR.

At the end of the day, No. 29 in platform 3 at Grosmont with the demonstration freight. The consist is to be re-ordered into Goathland and Pickering elements ready for the stock to be returned to those locations - Steve Hyman

At the end of the day, a group retired to the crossing club for pie and peas arranged by John Midcalf. However the gala continued for another three days. The weather on the 27th was changable.
