Home News Notice Board Coronavirus

Along with all other organisations, the Trustees have been closely following the Government's response to the Coronavirus outbreak and considering the implications for the Group's activities against our duty of care and responsibility for the safety of members. On Monday, the guidance and direction from the Government changed significantly, and, in particular, the Prime Minister urged everyone to avoid all non essential social contact with other people, and also any non essential travel. Additional recommendations were made for those identified as being vulnerable to the virus, in particular those over 70.

Following this change in guidance, the Trustees have decided that in the light of their duty of care to our members, all our planned activities should be cancelled, postponed or suspended until further notice: none can be regarded as essential in the national context. As a result, the event planned for 13 April on the NYMR to mark the centenary of the death of Wilson Worsdell has been postponed, the Social meeting planned for 17 April has been cancelled, the AGM due on 1 May has been postponed, the Patron visits to the York ROC and Scarborough have also been postponed, and Hopetown Open days and formal working parties have been suspended. We are sorry to make these changes, but hope you understand the necessity at this difficult time for us all.

The Trustees will continue to monitor the guidance from Government and with the cancellation of all face to face Board meetings, will consider what NELPG business can continue via email and telephone to minimise the impact, as far as possible. We will also will monitor third party decisions taken at the NYMR (which has decided to delay its start of service until further notice), and West Coast Railway Company. The next issue of News will be circulated in April with any further updates. We will also put any more information on the website - - so do keep an eye on it.

In the meantime, please continue to follow the latest Government guidance, and keep yourselves safe.
