Seven volunteers braved the ice to continue with the J72 winter maintenance programme on Tuesday.

The biggest problem was changing the left hand driving spring where Harry Samms and Steve Gibson struggled with a reluctant taper pin. The reversing shaft was examined by John Graham after an examination by ourselves a week earlier. The problem is not serious.

The pieces of ice are from the water hose, it had to be bent to loosed the ice and eventually the water pressure forced out the ice. The boiler was then filled - Terry Newman

The loco is spotless and is now ready for a steam test.
