J27 - 10 November 2021

Print

Nigel Hall and Ed Bolam put a concrete base inside the bottom area of the smokebox giving protection against deterioration to the cylinder casting. Next week, old brick arch rubble will be layered on top of the layer of concrete. Then another layer of concrete will be put on top of the rubble. Terry Newman stripped down both J27 gauge frames, cleaned all components, and rodded out the water and steam passages. Both left and right gauge components are in separate boxes on the fireman’s seat to be fitted later after wash out. After removing the J27s slacker pipe valve last week, and giving it to Owain for repairs, no progress to report as Owain wasn’t at work on Wednesday.
