Ian Pearson reports a mild, cloudy day at Grosmont on Tuesday with Bill Dobson, Nigel Hall, Gordon Wells and Ian himself.
Nigel couldn't do any painting on the J27 tender front due to condensation. He therefore concentrated on cleaning the inside of the J27 upper cab.
Wednesday was a fine day and in attendance were Steve Hyman, Ed Bolam, Nigel Hall, Trevor Wilford, Tom Readman and Ian Pearson.
Ed spent all day cleaning under the J27 - frames, springs and motion, another very dirty job. Tom was in the firebox cleaning the tube plate, roof stay nuts and grate area. He also oiled the tube plate. Later, he and Trevor cleaned three top doors which were removed from the J27 during the afternoon by boilersmith Tom Leach.
Nigel managed to get a coat of gloss on the buffer beam, tender front, beading and handrails. The upper cab beading was primed to prevent further rusting.
